Too fast? Pause the video. Download C and Python source code from thenerdshow.com For Python, refer to Part 5 of this series. It should be up now. There were some technical difficulties. Free cross-platform rapid application development was never so rapid or easy as it is using Glade 3.0′s interface designer. The new version will save in either GtkBuilder or Libglade format xml for easy integration into the programming environment. Using the robust and lightening-fast C language or the versatile and easy to grasp python language back end gives programmers the best of both worlds. As everyone knows, C code generation has been removed from Glade 3.0. This is a good thing because the code it generated was rather bloated and prolonged the usage of outdated conventions (difficult to maintain). By putting the interface into a separate xml file, Glade allows programmers or even end users to tweak the interface without re-compiling. As we shall see in a future video, the program logic to make this application work will be one page of easily readable C code. Stay tuned! Glade is a free and open source RAD tool for user interface design. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Website: glade.gnome.org

@AbsalomPitchingfork I didn’t think to mention this, but pressing F11 makes the window full-screen in most applications. Admittedly it is not automatic, but one key isn’t too bad. I hear the autohide extension makes it automatically start in fullscreen mode, but I am reluctant to try it.

@serialkissersband Yes, but it is easier to use something that was made for it like zenity, kdialog, or xmessage. See the winetricks script for an example.

How do you take the glade file – project.glade - which appears to be in XML format and compile it into C code or the executable final product?
I’m using Glade 3.6.7, Ubuntu 10.04, and GTK+ 2? I believe that I must use gktbuilder but I can’t finmd any tutorials.

You can install this in Ubuntu just like any other application. Click Applications -> Add/remove, search for glade and check it, click apply and you’re done.

Aww. It’s a really good idea to have that, because it makes the windows look far more consistent.
December 19th, 2011 at 2:46 am
Oh I don’t think so, not without changing the window manager. Even the mac theme doesn’t do that.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:21 am
You’re mistaking the main menu applet for the menu bar that appears in most windows.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:15 am
sure, just right-click the panel and add the main menu
December 19th, 2011 at 4:15 am
I’ve been wondering, is there any easy way to put the menu bar on the GNOME panel instead of on the window?

The Python video needed to be re-uploaded. You can find it on part 5 of this set and the source code is also in the download now.
December 19th, 2011 at 5:09 am
If your going to tag this with python, it would be nice of you to eat least mention how to use it with glade more specifically.

@FRANKMASI Problem Solve. If you rather not to go through the adb services command, because you had the same problem as I did – No command “adb” found, did you mean: a list of possible command. Simply in your phone go to SETTINGS>CONNECT TO PC>DEFAULT CONNECTION TYPE>DISK DRIVE, and you’ll be set. It work for me HTC Hero.

I really like that system board. If I was going to build a full on system that’d what I’d use, but the Zotac Zbox ID11 has a dual core atom and the Ion 2 nvidia gpu. all you need is the hard drive and ram. yeah it has no remote but it’s a cheap barebones unit that would be similar to that board for a htpc.

I believe Super OS (an Ubuntu remix, like Linux Mint) looks and works just like Ubuntu, but has the codecs and other things preinstalled
December 19th, 2011 at 12:50 pm
as far as multitouch goes. I don’t quite recall what distro the guy was running, but it couldn’t have been anything older than Ubuntu 8.04. he had a touchscreen monitor and compiz with multitouch and it was amazing so I don’t see how they’d have a problem doing this with a touchpad or all in one touchscreen computer and such
