How long can my computer keep running with an outdated browser?
I browser my computer is outdated. However my computer’s little outdated too, and doesn’t have what it would need to run the new browser. Should I start saving up for a new one, or can this problem be dealt with for a few more years yet?

By the way, I love my computer I don’t want to start over because I love all the programs on my computer.

Not to be funny but you can run it as long as there are websites and programs that support it.

You still may want to save up for a new one. Old tech is on the way out and you can always reinstall your programs and settings on a new computer. In Windows 7 you can even download XP virtual machine and run most XP programs on it such as editing software, burning software, etc…

When you get to the point that websites will not run with older versions of flash player and other software, its time to update. Start saving NOW because older operating systems are on their way out quickly and there will be no more support.

Good luck

You and I are in the same boat! Or should I say program? I have exactly the same dilemma. So far, only 1 or 2 sites I’ve visited say they won’t load because of my old browser. I think the update does two things: it loads videos faster for advertising purposes (like TV) and it gives better tracking of what sites you’ve visited so that some advertising can be tailored to what you are viewing. I also think that some of the tracking is done for the government as a Big Brother thing.

In any case, I think we are fine until it gets to the point where most sites won’t load anymore.

As long as the computer continues to boot. However, over time, you will probably run into more and more web sites that won’t work with your browser.

You did not say what operating system (OS) you are using (Windows 95, 98, ME, 200, XP, Vista; Mac; Linux), or what browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc.), you are using. There may be a newer browser (other than Internet Explorer, for instance) that will run on your old system.

Note that there are problems with older OS’s and browsers other than just whether they will run the programs or access the web sites you want. They are also MUCH more vulnerable to infections and other attacks. You could end up paying as much to clean off infections as it would cost you for a new PC.

You can use it as long as you want however you may experience some problems while loading a certain type of pages and will not be able to enjoy new features releases and speed. Also you will be more vulnerable to security issues.I will recommend start saving up as you will have to upgrade whether you want or now rather in the future. You can wait for next year holiday season to enjoy sales.
