When charging at an hourly rate should I bill travel time? or should I adjust my rate for that? [+]

I started a sole proprietorship in September. My business records are stored in 2 different programs and I have a file with a handful of receipts. Plus I have 3 W-2s from previous employers. I need to have someone do my taxes and set up Quickbooks for me. Is there one type of business that can do that or do I need to talk to a tax person and a accounting person? Of course I'm looking for the most cost effective way to accomplish this. [+]

I consider "low" start-up cost to be under $5000.00. Also, if there are any businesses that could probably get a grant to get started. I contacted the SBA (Small Business Admin.) and was told that the government is not giving out any grants to start a business. I am fiddling around with vending machinces, snack and soda. Should I just stick with that field? Can vending bring in enough extra $$$ to live comfortably off? [+]

I am thinking about starting up a homemade soy candle business, any advice and or name ideas would be great. Thanks! [+]

Unfortunately I am being made redundant from my job in financial services - I am not having a lot of joy finding a new job so I have decided to set myself up in business. I have spent my whole life in financial services so my skills are limited to these. One idea which is starting to appeal is an ironing service business. I have done my research, checked out the competition, priced supplies and start up costs. What I am not sure about is the following ... A good business name and how I should start marketing myself - any clues anybody?? I have recently started a consulting services firm specializing in process improvement services. My dilemma is that I am currently billing out my time at a client site and I don't have the time or the resources to hunt for new business. I have tried for months to hire a commission sales person but no takers. How in the world can I grow from a company of one into a thriving business. Right now my risk is too high. If I lose my client, I am not making any money. I sell services and not products. Anyone who has grown a business by themselves....please respond with advice! [+]
