I work in operations at a large firm. Advice:
Go prepared with questions for your interviewer. When in doubt, try something safe like asking why he or she likes working there, what are some challenges that the job faces, what are key goals for 2008, etc.
1) Dress nicely. A suit is best.
2) Bring extra copies of your resume, just in case.
3) Be prepared to talk about everything on your resume, as well as key questions such as why you want the job, your strengths/weaknesses, an example of leadership or teamwork, etc.
4) For operations in specific, you may be asked about a process you’ve created, or an efficiency you’ve identified, or a project that you have successfully delivered. Go prepared with examples.
5) Research the company, and be familiar with the job, the products, and the clients. If you can, try to make your examples relevant to that.
6) Arrive a few minutes early so you’re not looking rushed or sweaty.
7) If you’re nervous — practice with a friend. That will make your responses smoother and quicker.
Good luck!
